A Complete Guide to Tattoo Care
Have you just gotten a new tattoo? Do you want to ensure it stays beautiful and vibrant? Follow our comprehensive guide to properly care for your new tattoo and preserve its color. Whether you've gotten a small, delicate tattoo or a larger masterpiece, it's crucial to give it the right care.
Unless otherwise specified after your tattoo session, you can follow this guide to care for your tattoo.
Bandage with cling film
Leave the bandage on your new tattoo for a minimum of 3 hours and a maximum of 12 hours.
Wash your tattoo gently but thoroughly under running water with a flat hand. Use a perfume-free soap for this. If not available, use water only.
Avoid drying your tattoo with a towel or similar to prevent bacteria. Let the tattoo air dry.
After washing, wait for 1 hour to allow the skin to close, and then apply a light layer of approved tattoo Panthenol cream.
Dressing with Second Skin
Keep the bandage on your new tattoo for up to 5 days if possible and no more than 5 days.
Avoid touching the bandage too much to prevent loosening. Avoid sports and activities that induce sweating as well as prolonged baths, as they can loosen the bandage.
If the bandage falls off or does not cover optimally, remove it. The same applies if there is discomfort or irritation.
Remove the bandage most easily under lukewarm running water.

General Care

Keep your tattoo moisturized during the healing process to promote recovery. The frequency of cream application depends on factors such as healing speed and skin type. Listen to your body and apply cream if the tattoo feels dry and itchy.
Apply a thin layer of cream approx. 5-6 times a day and wash the tattoo daily with perfume-free soap or water 2-3 times a day.

Panthenol Cream
Panthenol creme fremmer heling og bevarelsen af din tatoverings farve. Vælg en egnet creme uden skadelige tilsætningsstoffer. Men hvor finder du den?
At Selfmade, we sell the "Hemp Tattoo Care" brand for 100 kr., which we have had really good experiences with.
Most pharmacies carry Panthenol cream in various variants. Ask your local pharmacy staff for recommendations. They sell brands like "Apotekets Panthenol" or "Tattoo Aftercare," for example.
Gode Råd
Protect your tattoo from the sun. For a new tattoo, use sunscreen approved for tattoos to preserve the color. Avoid regular sunscreen as it's not intended for open wounds.
Avoid tight clothing. Your new tattoo is as delicate as a scrape, so avoid clothing that can rub and irritate it. Otherwise, it can negatively affect the color and healing process.
No scratching. The itching is often a sign that your tattoo has dried out. Instead, apply a thin layer of cream to soothe.
Avoid salt water and chlorine water: These can adversely affect color pigmentation during the healing process.
Use a cream applicator if you have difficulty reaching your tattoo, especially on your back.
